Gil Elvgren’s Pin-Up Girls: Before & After

    Amazing this Before & After posts.
    I love how for Elvgren the photographic references are just that, references, he never slaves to the picture. The artist build his own work idealize the pose of the figure and the anatomy to ehance the composition and the appeal of the image with a charming sense of color to boot.
    In other words draftsmaship and craftsmanship that were prevalent in illustration work of the 50´s and is sadly difficult to see today.

  2. Thanks for checking out the blog. yeah--this was a rare find. To see how the illustrators worked--I wish there was more of this--would love to see the sketches and color comps too.
